About Zanzibar Island

Zanzibar Island is known as Africa's tropical paradise, offering the world's most beautiful beaches with miles of white sandy shores dotted with palm trees, surrounded by the clear azure waters of the Indian Ocean. Part of the Zanzibar Archipelago together with Pemba Island and many smaller islands, Zanzibar offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.

The island has a rich history as the 'Spice Islands' due to centuries of spice trade and numerous spice plantations. Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an amazing mix of Arab, Persian, Indian, and European influences. This historic quarter features narrow winding streets, the Sultan's Palace, the House of Wonders, and vibrant food markets at Darajani and Forodhani.

The east coast is particularly recommended for its gorgeous serene beaches, diverse activities, and multi-cuisine restaurants. Beyond the beaches, Zanzibar offers world-class diving and snorkeling among tropical coral reefs, spice tour experiences, the indigenous Jozani Forest with rare red colobus monkeys, and unforgettable cultural encounters. Whether you seek beach relaxation after a safari or an active island adventure, Zanzibar delivers an authentic tropical experience.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Zanzibar is during the long dry season from June to October, offering guaranteed sunshine, minimal rainfall, and perfect beach weather with temperatures around 30°C. This is ideal for diving, snorkeling, and water sports. January to February also provides excellent conditions with hot, dry weather and calm seas. Avoid the long rains (April-May) when heavy downpours can affect activities. The short rains (November-December) bring brief morning showers but are still pleasant for beach holidays with fewer crowds and better rates.
